Jamie Mousseau - Olympic Torch Carrier

Jamie Mousseau, from Sandy Bay First Nation, was one of 11 Aboriginal youth from across Canada chosen to be an Olympic Flame Attendent. Recently he has been in Swift Current, Prince Albert, Saskatoon, Lethbridge, Red Deer, Medicine Hat, and Edmonton to name a few.

Jamie's job is to accompany the many torch bearers as it makes its way to Vancouver. I asked Jamie about his experience and he said, "It's been great, what we do is take care of the flame, make sure it doesn't go out during the day. We light it up when we start in a city or town, then when we are done at that place we take the flame back from the last torch bearer. Tomorrow we are running with a hundred torch bearers starting at 6:30 AM. It's a great thing helping people with special needs, I helped a blind boy, just talking him through the road and sort of guiding him with my hand on his shoulder, that just felt special."

Jamie has always been a good ambassador of First Nations peoples and a good athlete, the former member of the South East Blades in the MJHL is currently among the leading scorers in the Manitoba East Senior Hockey League, but the miles have been taking a toll on him. He joked that, "Within the first few weeks my quads were sore, now I'm getting shin splints." Coverage of the Olympic torch run can be seen live by webcam on the CTV website.
